Sapphire HD 5770 - No picture

I've recently bought a new graphics card, a Sapphire 5770 1gb.

However, when I installed it, no picture was displayed, and the monitor had a "No signal" message. The card was powered, the fan running. I am using a VGA cable with a DVI adaptor. What can I try to resolve this problem? I have the BIOS setting as PCI-E, etc

my spcs:

MB: ConRoe945G-DVI
PSU: Corsair CMPU 500w
CPU: Intel Pentium D 945 @ 3.4ghz

Quick update: I removed the adaptor and plugged it into the motherboard's VGA slot and I have picture. I'll report back in a few minutes, fingers crossed
