Need help selecting CPU

The computer i was using until recently has crashed, and i am on a very tight budget for building a new one. I need a new cpu, prefferably something that i shouldnt need to replace for several years (meaning the speed will be able to keep up with newer programs). I would like to do some gaming on it, but it wont be anything heavy. I have a Radeon HD 5450 if that makes any difference. thanks in advance!

More about need selecting
  1. Well do you need a new motherboard as well? If not what type do you already own? If you don't I recommend going with the socket 1155 i3 2100. Should suffice for a couple of years with room to upgrade
  2. I do need another motherboard. i was looking at some of the AMD CPU's because of the fact that they are generally running cheaper for about the same benchmarks.
  3. Which motherboard do you have now?
  4. Sorry. I misread your motherboard requirement criteria. How much of a budget do you have? Newer motherboards mostly require DDR3 memory. So if you do not have it then you will need to purchase some new memory also.
  5. I dont have memory, im prepared to buy it though. My budget right now is between $300-400. Basically im going for the best value i can get.
  6. A 400$ max budget can fetch you the following -
