Is an i3 2100 really faster than Phenom x4 in Gaming??

With Radeon HD 6950 1GB for gaming at 1600*900. Games like Metro 2033 and even processor intensive games like GTA 4 etc.

Might be a little but not enough to worry about, at least as far as GTA4 is concerned.
This compilation of reviews, (links to the others on first page) shows there is next to no difference. You want to look at the 5870 and the 4870 X2 cards as they perform nearly perfectly the same as a 6950.

Cpu's come with on board memory and it varies depending on the CPU, level 1/2 and 3 cache in some cases. They still all need Ram on the motherboard though.
A lot of this depends on your wants and needs.
Right now if you can afford a decent level sandy bridge then thats the way to go. You need to look at things like will you overclock the CPU. If no then all is good but if you will overclock then CPU's like the i3 2100 are limited by the fact that you can overclock them.

i3-2100 beats x4 up to 3.7ghz in nearly all gaming tests I have seen.

I have not seen the tests on games like GTA4, which use multiple cores. I have a feeling the X4 would win in those tests.

yes, the i5 2400 is faster than any pehnom x4 or i3 in pretty much every circumstance.

The 2400 removes all of the (very few) shortcomings the 2100 has compared to the phenom.

I was in the same boat as you, I was between the phenom and the 2100, I was still considering the phenom simply for the 2 extra cores. The insane performance of the sandy bridge processors led to the 2400, which I have now. If you don't want to overclock (you said you didn't want to in your previous thread), the 2400 is the absolute ideal choice.

@bluesc- yep, but due to my low budget for cpu, the phenom x4 955 comes in my budget. As you people say that an i3 2100 (which is priced at the same as 955) is faster than 955 in gaming, so am going with the i3.

After two years i will get an i7 2600k which have the same socket as the i3 i.e lga 1155 so i wont need to change my mobo. And then i will also get an more powerfull card than 6950.

But if i get some more bucks i will definately go with the i5 now.

What do you think about this plan?

After considering your problem thoroughly I suggest that you go with the phenom X4.Afetr all even in gaming it isn't that much weaker than the i3.probably just 2-3 fps faster.A difference you won't even see as mostly 90%games are gpu bound and your 6950 will tear through them all.There isn't much sense in buying the i7 2600k after 2 years coz by then a much more powerful cpu will have been released.I myself own a i7 870 and I didn't upgrade to sandy bridge because there wasn't much difference in gaming.I am awaiting Ivy bridge to see whether it offers anything worthwile.Besides those 2 extra cores in the phenom will be useful in core dependandt games like crysis 2,gta 4,bfbc2

what is price of antec earthwatt 650?
I asked cause as if am able to save some money by getting the earthwatt instead of corsair tx 650, then i will get the i5 2*** instead of i3 2100 or the phenom x4.
