I have recently aquired a Full PC needs the power supply (380 watt) and proccessor (x2 6000+ 65nm) replaced I looked up the CPU compatibility and it will run the x6 although the mobo only supports DDR2. I guess my question is would putting an x6 on this board be an atrocity that would make small children cry or could i make it into a decent machine for transcoding with tversity gaming, ect. ... Thanks

The mobo is Asus M4A78L-M

This was a freebe so Im not looking for replace the board ect..

Check on the bios file requirement first and use your old cpu to flash the bios if needed. Some of those boards have a 95w limit on the cpu. I recommend antec, corsair, seasonic, or enermax power supplies. Newegg had a 400w corsair for around $18 after rebate recently. DDR2 is ok to use as long as you already have it. New it costs more than ddr3 now.

Mainly want the 6 core for transcoding on the fly with tversity it makes my dual core cry allot. i have the newest Bios that was the first thing i did 801 or 805 whatever the new one was. I know most of the time it will not be taxed at all but if that is the case it will be usinf the turbo core so it should be zippy using 3 cores or get allot of work done using 6... i just did not know what kind of bottlenecks i would be adding putting a top end proc on a several year old mobo..?
