I have an hp p6230y and the current cpu on it is 95w tdp amd phenon ii x4 810 2.66 ghz
I wanna get an amd phenom ii x4 980 3.7 ghz but its 125w tdp..
im not sure if my mobo is 125w tdp and incase its 95w tdm what happens if i install the 125w tdp procceser on an 95w tdp motherboard
Here you go. I purchased the AMD Phenom ii X4 980 Black for my HP PC that supports only a TDP of 95W. Installed the chip and powered the computer up. Immediately a red message popped up saying .... Unsupported processor. Called AMD tech support who informed me without hesitation that the reason was or is the TDP value. AMD did however tell me that HP sell and OEM 980 that will run on a 95w modo. I called HP parts who had no idea what the heck I was talking about. At the end of the day, I decided to go ahead and purchase the AMD Phenom ii x4 3.3Ghz 850. Frys have this processor for $109.00.
