Hey,

i wanted some suggestions on what GPU i schould choose for my first build.

I'm building a non-oc, gaming rig.

This time, i wanna go with AMD. I was looking at the radeon HD 6850, but some people told me i need to invest in a better one.

My build is Sandy bridge-based (i5-2500):

mobo: ASUS P8P67 DELUXE

PSU: Coolermaster silent pro gold 700W

No, i'm still reconsidering different parts of my build, so i haven't bought anything yet.

The max. resolution of my monitor is 1920x1080 (16:9)

I'll be playing FPS and MMO's

I don't have a lot of money left, (i prefer it to cost less than 340$/215£ ) but if the GPU is worth the money, i'm ok with spending some extra cash.

The prices might be differnt where you are but you should really look at the Antec PSU's and see if the prices are the same.

For $300+ you could really get some great graphics cards but if your not playing anything overly demanding then i would suggest saving some money and going with a 6870 or a GTX560,maybe even a 6950 all should be below the $300 mark.

Do you already have the case and some RAM?

That Coolermaster PSU is actually one of the only really good PSUs from CM. And it's pretty competitively priced. What's your resolution? That's the golden question.

Ah sorry, missed that. Looked twice too hahaha. I'd say a 6950 or a 560 should be lots of card for you. The 6850 will be weak at that resolution. You might squeak by on a 6870 though.

If you are spending less than $300.00 I would suggest the gtx 560. Personally, I was unhappy with the 68xx series, and the 6950. I did not use the 6970, because I got a gtx 570.

If you are able to spend ~350.00 I would get a gtx 570.

@ metalmidget: In an earlier post you gave prices in Dollars and Pounds-Where are you? It's daft us giving you Newegg links if you live in the UK!
Prices vary wildly but you should really be looking at the HD6950/GTX560 class of performance to avoid an early upgrade, more if you can find a good deal.

Actually i'm in Belgium, and here we use €, but since this is a UK forum (and most ppl link to newegg) i give my price in $/£. Anyway, i plan on buying most things from amazon.co.uk (only the parts that can't be found on a website here in Belgium)

thanks for the feedback.

I think i'll go with 6870 or 6950

If you don't have a clue, then don't bother about it. Get a GTX 560 Ti which would allow you to fit the PSU within 340$.When overclocked, it can come close to the GTX 570 in performance.

i would suggest you Palit GeForce GTX 460 1024MB Sonic Platinum
it is worth the money and even cost you less then gtx 560 though there is much difference between the core speed of the two totally depends on your requirements.......
