I would suggest Windows 7.
Backup important data, swap out those HDDs with a Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB.
DVD Drive is fine.
I would suggest the Gigabyte 870.
If you upgrade your motherboard buy 2x2GB DDR3 RAM.
If you upgrade your motherboard go with the AMD Phenom II X2 555.
I have never seen the cooler, but if you want to upgrade, I would recommend the Cooler Master Hyper 212+.
The PSU sounds good, what is the model number?
I would recommend the AMD Radeon HD 6850, or the GeForece GTX 460.
Screen is fine.
Mouse is fine.
Headphones are fine.
I would suggest a new Soundcard.
Keyboard is fine.

thanks joe.....
I would suggest Windows 7.
was thinking about 64 pro bit but worried about compatibality...
would 7 be better for gaming?

the newer deive is wd 640mb black ...the older is 80md and wd tools indicates a problem -- isn't black 7200 rpm faster rhan blue? was

thinking of 120mb ssd for os?

I would suggest the Gigabyte 870.
would go with giga again ... what do you think about keeping current but
going with a quad 9560 to last a few more years?

was thinking if i do this would go with socket 1155 and intel 2500k - dont you think better than amd?

I have never seen the cooler, but if you want to upgrade, I would recommend the Cooler Master Hyper 212+.

cooler is new and highly rated -- set me back 90 bucks

The PSU sounds good, what is the model number?
corsair hx620w modular - 2yrs old

do you think a big performance bump over the gtx275?

I would suggest a new Soundcard.

was thinking asus xonar dx

heres my confusion....would really tick me off if i go with new mb and cpu and
dont see gaming improvement...i upgraded to a gtx 275 from a 8800gt and didnt
see much diff but fps did go up.....if i go to 9650 quad and oc will sys last
a few more years and be fast enough?....( i think i'm chasing my own tail ...)

Windows 7 is just all around good.
My mistake, the 640GB is great, I would put the OS on that.
I was thinking you had a small budget. I would recommend the P67 1155 with the i5-2500K Sandy Bridge.
Cooler is good.
PSU is good.
Yes those GPUs will give you a noticeable boost.
That sound card you picked is fine.

thanks ...

ok so win7 64bit
xonar sound
new graphics
do you think a quad 9650 would be that much less performance than the 1155/2500 upgrade with ddr3?
.....
im thinking win7 , sound and graphics for now .... with the new graph on my 6750 bottleneck???...i do have a budget
so i want to upgrade in increments

That sounds great. The only Core 2 Quad 9650 I can find is pretty expensive. I would go with the i5-2500K. The 6850, 6870, 6950, or 6970 are all good GPUs.
April 4, 2011 12:56:18 AM

9650 about $320 but new mb memory and cpu about $500 ish ..... would new be that much faster? - thanks for helping me noodle this through -- what about if new graphics now with ny 6750 - any bottle necks there?

I honestly think your better off with the Sandy Bridge. If you don't upgrade your GPU, then you are definitely bottlenecking your rig. I would recommend the 6850, 6870, 6950, or 6970.

dont understand 'If you don't upgrade your GPU, then you are definitely bottlenecking your rig' you mean as-is i have bottleneck - dont think you mean that ... do you mean if new gfx card with current processor then will bott??? --

If you upgrade your processor, and leave your GPU at what it is, then your are bottlenecking your build.
