When flashing a 6950 to a 6970?

When flashing a 6950 to a 6970, do you get all that the 6970 has to offer or will there still be some things that wont be up to snuff? Like Core clock, Stream Processors.....?

Also, Ive read that only the reference cards can be flashed. How can you tell if its a reference card?

Thanx

Here is a link to the article on TechPowerup on flashing the 6950.

I flashed my Sapphire 6950 to a 6970 with an Asus bios and it is running at 890 core / 1375 mem with 1536 shaders.

If you have the 2GB board it should be a reference card.

Just follow the intructions in the article, I hope this helps
  2. To answer your question, yes, it has everything a 6970 has. However, it might not OC as well, and there are cases were the memory has gone bad. This is because they use lower rated memory in some of the 6950's.
  3. personally, I plan on flashing my card, then down clocking closer to 6950 speeds. Video card has so much power as it is, why generate more heat
