man don't buy a e8400 get a chip that is not dead tech. You might want to consider going with Sandy bridge for a build.

Hello dwight85;

Have you set a budget for this project?

If you fill out the form in*How To Ask For New Build Advice* you'll answer all the standard questions that help things get started.

I just converted my e8400 to my unix box.

my suggestion, assuming you need everything else:

AS Rock G31 Micro ATX motherboard: $40.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Rosewill R-101 micro ATX case: $29.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
Free shipping thru Weds

4GB Mushkin DDR2-800: $55.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Corsair CX430W PSU: $44.99 w/ $10 rebate
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
inexpensive, Johnny Guru reccommended buy, able to handle the video card below

XFX GTS 250 512MB: $94.99 w/ $30 MIR
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
Its old, but a good match for the older CPU, neither will really hold the other back, and it'll let them play fancier games.

Seagate 500GB HDD: $39.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
Free Shipping thru 4/6

Rosewill 92mm Cooler for Socket 775: $12.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
It'll do the basic cooling you need.

This is $339.89

Windows 7 is $99.99

optionally, you can add an 80mm and 120mm fan for extra cooling, I'm suggesting red LEDs for 'coolness' factor for the kids.

80mm w/ RED LED: $4.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

120mm w/ Red LED: $4.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Total with everything: $449.99
