Building a Gaming PC

I'm looking to build my first gaming PC, but I don't really know where to start. I've been looking at using the Intel 2500K CPU and an EVGA GTX 560 Ti, but apart from that, I'm lost. Assistance would be greatly appreciated, and my budget is around $1000.

Thanks

More about building gaming
  1. Intel Core i5 2500k $225
    Asus P8P67-M Pro $150
    EVGA GTX 560 Ti $260
    Corsair Dominator 8Gb $110

These are the main parts but I think you'll be able to choose the rest because I'm not sure how much storage you want or stuff.

    Cheers
  2. This $949 build is based upon the Asus P8P67Pro returning to stock on newegg in the very near future. Case, PSU and MoBo were selected so as to house a 2nd GFX card in SLI at some point in the future w/o making any other changes:

    Case - $70 - Antec 300 Illusion http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129066
    PSU - $100 - XFX 750 W Core Edition PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207009
    MoBo - $395 - ASUS P8P67 Pro http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131682
    CPU - $ incl above - Intel Core i5-2500K http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115070
    /Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835150080
    RAM - $84 - (2 x 4GB) Corsair CAS 9 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145324
    GFX - $215 - Gigabyte GTX 560 Ti 900 Mhz http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125363
    GFX - Later - Same
    HD - $65 - Spinpoint F3 1TB 7200 rpm http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185
    DVD Writer - $20 - Asus 24X DRW-24B3L w/ LS http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204

If the MoBo doesn't show soon, the ASUS P8P67-M PRO is a decent choice. It would cut $20 off ya build price.

W/o a 3rd party cooler, yo should have no trouble hitting a 4.3 - 4.4 Ghz OC on the CPU. If ta wanna go higher add $45:

    Cooler - $40 - Scythe SCMG 2100 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185142
    TIM - $5 - Shin Etsu http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835150080

Here's a list of other cards w/ relative performance to help in your decision making:

The factory OC'd 560 Ti's perform very close to the 570's. Guru3D uses the following games in their test suite, COD-MW, Bad Company 2, Dirt 2, Far Cry 2, Metro 2033, Dawn of Discovery, Crysis Warhead. Total fps (summing fps in each game) for the various options (single card / SL or CF) are tabulated below:

    6850 (371/634)
    6950 (479/751)
    560 Ti (455/792)
    6970 (526/825)
    560 Ti - 900 Mhz (495/862)
    570 (524/873)
    580 (616/953)
    6990 (762/903)
    590 (881/982)
