I wanted to add this to a thread that was closed. A bit out of date, but important nonetheless. FYI.

EZ Flash 2 – the best, the safest and the most convenient way to update BIOS.

Revised July 31, 2011 - Description for update through ASUS BUPDATER.

Updating BIOS is serious business!
Every precaution should therefore be taken to prevent that anything goes wrong. Avoid ASUS UPDATE!
There are a couple a DOS alternatives, AFUDOS and BUPDATER (newer motherboards), that also are good and safe to use.

Here is that reference:

Solution
I ONLY RECOMMEND a BIOS level (BIOS) update. (ASUS) EZ Flash 2, (Gigabyte) Q-Flash, (MSI) M-Flash, etc.

ASUS recently added 'USB BIOS Flashback' which is probably the safest and doesn't require a CPU, RAM or GPU...
