I got a single 7950 sapphire 3gb OE right now and I am planning to get a second one after its price drops.
I currently have m4a88tdm-usb3 asus motherboard and 1055t phenom x6 @3.6ghz,
Would upgrading to i5 2500k boost my performance with 7950 especially with the added crossfire in the future?
I might get a better cpu if price/performance ratio is good.
Does the mother board matter to gaming performance like Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z vs Asus P8P67?

Your question is would you get better performance by upgrading from the 1055 to the Intel® Core™ i5-2500K? Yes it would give you better performance in a number of areas. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/147?vs=288

The motherboard matters for features and in the high end the ability to overclock (due to the quality of capasitors used). So look at what you are going to be doing with the board and look for a board with the features that you want.
