Hello all,

I am currently running 2- HD6870's in CF. I am also running eyefinity at 5760 x 1080. I am just wondering if a single 6970 or dual 6950's is a noteworthy upgrade and worth the extra cash. Just looking for some opinions. Thanks.

I would say definatley not, 6950s is gonna be a bit better but crossfire 6870s is def better than a 6970, performance wise anyways

It just seems that my performance is meh....is that to be expected with eyefinity For instance I was playing rift on high settings last weekend and was averaging about 35 fps at that resolution. My system specs are as follows:

ASUS Rampage III Extreme LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield 3.06GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor BX80601950

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop

128 GB Samsung SSD (Primary drive with Rift only on it and OS)

(2) HIS H687F1G2M Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity

LITE-ON CD/DVD Burner - Bulk Black SATA Model iHAS124-04 - OEM

ORSAIR TX Series CMPSU-950TX 950W ATX12V v2.3/EPS12V v2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3500418AS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive (2nd drive)

thats sounds about right I mean 5760X1080 is a darn high res and requires at least say crossfire 5850s, if you really are not happy with the performance go for dual 6970s or wait for the dual 6 series card to come out in the coming months, but at that of a res, depending on the game, etc... it could struggle or at least come close to that 30 fps comfort mark

Ok tyvm for all your help. I guess I may have had unrealistic expectations. I am sure if I just enabled a single monitor my frames would be through the roof compared to the three. Once again, thanks.

yeah i mean I have 1 6870 right now and it runs a single 1080p in 99% of the games that I play at 60+ fps with a slight overclock, I plan on addding a second down the road but I'm only intending on running a single 1080p display... after these cards run there coarse hopefully the whole 3-d gaming thing wont require glasses so I will buy some nvidia cards likely to run a 3d rig but hopefully in 2-3 years the 3d technology will have advanced a bit and come down in price... other than that I personally would never do eyeinfinity, I just don't like having the gaps between screens I like one continuous display... just my 2 cents

I agree on the whole 3D thing. I sure hope that becomes mainstream and doesn't require glasses in the future. As for the eyefinity I absolutely love it personally. I was playing around with fraps the other day and went to a single monitor to test fps, and I was like ewwww I can't see anything :)  Different strokes for different folks though for sure.

yeah I could see going from three monitors to one and feeling like your peripherals have seriously been chopped off, lol. But having never gone that route all I know is one monitor, its all relative. I could see eyeinfinity being very usuful in fps and rts games though. What kind of games do you play on eyeinfinity? which ones can you play at high res and no less then 60 fps?

I am an MMO junky. I have played WoW for the past 5 years and now time for a change. I will be playing Rift. WoW was running at 60fps but rift is down between 30-45. Though Rift is more graphically intense. They are also having some frame rate jumping with the higher end cards. I am sure with how good Trion has been this will be fixed very quickly. I was also playing DCUO for the past couple weeks as well and that game is not super for Eyefinity, the UI can't be changed around so it is a pain. Rift however, has a completely customizable UI. You can literally move every single object around. So in Rift I have everything in the middle screen and the outer ones are peripheral only. So some games are a pain, but FPS are amazing in Eyefinity
