The leading brands are probably Linksys, D-Link, Netgear.
In fact, all brands use a small pool of chipset makers so that their products are functionally very similar. Differences are mainly noticeable in the way the router user interface is designed -- D-Link quite complex, Netgear simplified.
The price difference between the leading brands and no-name products might be accounted for in after sales support -- Netgear has an excellent user forum for example. Cheaper ones, you may not be able to find the brand in a couple of years time, let alone find firmware etc. That may not matter as much in computing where the technology changes so fast compared to regular products.
