I bought a PC off my friend a couple or 3 years ago which has an Asus Commando motherboard with Q6600 2.4ghz processor, but want to upgrade.
My hardware knowledge pretty much sucks, but am I right in thinking that I cant use an i5 2500k with my Commando?
Is the Asus Commando really dated and I need to upgrade if I want to upgrade my PC, really?

I mean it plays SWTOR on full settings at about 30fps.
HD6850, 4GB RAM and 470w PSU, but I'm only running at 1440x900 and am getting a new 22" or 23" monitor, so its going to stress my current set up going to 1920x1080.

Plus, if I do get a new motherboard, what am I really looking for?
What is Z68 or LGA1155 vs LGA775 etc?

Thanks for any tips.

Cheers

[fixed]Is the Asus Commando really dated and I need to upgrade if I want to upgrade my PC, really?[/fixed]Yes, dated. U can spend $400-$600 and have 3-5x faster PC.

U should upgrade the PSU too.

Z68 is the chipset for the new CPU @ LGA1155, the LGA775 socket is your old one.

RAM U cannot re-use the old one, as this is DDR3 vs yours DDR2.

I recommend CORSAIR Vengeance 99% of the time, quality RAM and low profile with XMP profile. And if u will get an aftermarket CPU cooler, low profile is the worry free remedy with perfect fit with any large cooler.
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

Vengeance Low Profile heat spreaders have a reduced height of 1.03" (26.25mm). They're designed for high-performance systems with extra-large CPU coolers, small form factor system builds, or any other space-constrained application where standard Vengeance memory might not fit.
