Duel monitors? duel video cards?

i would like to run two monitors one for gaming and the other for music player and ventrillo and web.

i'm building a new system and it's been a long time since i built one.

do i need two video cards one dedicated to gaming and does the other have to match even though it's for less intensive means.

If i Crossfire can i use two monitors? thanks for the help.
I tried to search this but didn't find a match i guess.

the cards i'm thinking of getting if they need to be the same ATI HD 6850's, are they good? :P ty

  1. You can run two monitors on one card no problem. You can run two monitors on a crossfire setup as well. If you are planning crossfire with two HD6850 cards they do not have to be the same model or manufacturer they will run at the speed of the lower card. HD6850 is a solid mid range offering with good performance at 1920 x 1080.

All looks good apart from the motherboard. That board has the second PCIe x16 slot running at X4 which is not as good for crossfire as this one that will run crossfire at X8 X8.
Your board would be good for a single card setup so maybe HD6950?
  4. thanks again Rolli59!! good find, i'll make sure to change that out now
