Soundcard built into motherboard doesnt work

Hello,
my soundcard registers that speakers are plugged in and when music or sound plays the levels move. but no sound come out. the speakers work in other music players and the driver says its up to date. any suggestions?

Ive just gone onto the site for my motherboard, its a xfx nforce 680i. downloaded the latest driver. but still not giving out any sound. i have a sound connector on the front panel that used to work but not that doesnt work anymore. It says nothing is connected so that is probably a loose connection.

still, i would like to be able to get the rear connector working properly.
