I think I read in a post here, that if you own your phone, you can get
service from Cingular month to month, without a contract. If this is true,
can I buy a phone from Cingular and use it, the same way, without a
contract?

No, but you can buy any *Cingular* phone you want off of ebay for half price
or even less. Then you simply need to have it activated by Cingular. They
will gladly sell you a SIM for it. -Dave

Ok thanks, I wanted to buy from Cingular for warranty purposes, but that
won't work.

Cingular doesn't offer a warranty anyway, unless you pay extra for it.
Whoever made your handset will provide a warranty. -Dave
