Hey I'm currently in the process of my 1st build (with the help of a friend who knows what he's doing) im basically going to be using it for gaming (bf3, cod, skyrim etc and also for writing programmes using visual studio and possibly graphic design as I am Uni doing computer science.

As I'm no pro I'm struggling to decide whic mb to get -

Asus sabretooth 990fx

http://uk.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3Plus/SABERTOOTH_...

Asus m5a99x

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3Plus/M5A99X_EVO...

One big thing I'm after apart from gaming is that I don't want to have to or feel the need to buy a new mb in a couple of years (so I guess I'd like it to be future proof for a while)

The price does not matter.

Sorry if this sounds really noobish

I've heard good things about the sabertooth but I'm not exactly an expert on motherboards

Both of those motherboards are for use with amd cpu's only. Unfortunately, the current amd cpu's are not very good for gaming.

If price is no object, you just can't do better than intel i5-2500K and a Z68 based motherboard.
Such a motherboard will be compatible with upcoming Intel cpu's.

If your build time frame is Apri;. then we should see the Intel ivy bridge cpu launch which will bring another 10% price/performance increase.

Agreed, but if price is no object, then why not the i7 2600k? It would be better than the i5 for graphics design and all :p

And if you want a good motherboard, get a ROG one :D

Edit: Actually, aren't Ivy Bridge CPUs coming out Q3 due to delays?
