Just put together a new system, need some help!

This is the second computer i have ever put together first of all, but I am a beginner...

I turned on the computer and nothing displayed. When the power is first turned on there are no beeps, however all of the fans are turned on high and functioning. I unplugged the hard drive and turned it on again no luck. I removed the cd and dvd drives and turned it on and nothing again. I then pulled out the ram and again no luck, not even a beep. During all of those tests the fans were still on.

I have a PSU tester and the power supply is working fine/
The graphics card is card that i pulled out of a computer that does work.
On a note the motherboard is not screwed directly into the case.

Another note, when i hold down the power button it does not even shut the computer off, i have to unplug the power entirely.

I cannot figure out if it is the ram, cpu or mobo

Does anyone have any idea what the issue is?

Thanks in advanced!

  1. Tthose are some really horrible choices for parts I gotta tell you, you could have gotten something much nicer for that amount of money had you come here and asked for advice.

The motherboard is not screwed directly into the case?? What do you mean by that?

Did you hook up a speaker to the motherboard? Cuz if you didn't, your not going to hear any beeps.

Sounds to me like the system is working your just not getting video.

Is the monitor coming on? Is it getting power? Is it plugged into the video card and the wall?

Power button not turning system on or off means you have the switches hooked up wrong.
  2. i ended up paying under 200$ so i didn't think it was that bad of a deal, however i think i may post it on this site in the future

-Some people by mistake screw the motherboard directly to the case rather than putting the lifts underneath, i just wanted to note that i did not make that mistake.
-The speaker is hooked up into the mobo correctly
-The monitor is receiving power as it has an orange glow around the turn on, when it actually receives images it turns blue, it did not receive anything of the sort
    - the video card is plugged in the mobo, i previously had it hooked into another computer and it worked perfectly fine in it, its a pci gt8400

is it possible the video card is not compatible with the mobo? and i am going to try changing the switches right now!
  3. ECS and ROSEWILL are probably the only two companies I absolutely recommend people NOT buy, so, I don't know man.

If the monitor is plugged into the video card and not getting video, I would try another video card.
  4. oh, i wish i knew that... haha, i fixed it, i forgot to connect the cpu power connector... it works perfect now,

thanks for your advice though, i appreciate it
