How to improve online gaming connection

If my Internet Service provider seems to be at fault for me not being able to online game for very long what can i do? i have a great router.. so dont tell me to try a different one and my ps3 works absolutely perfect. iv played call of duty at a different place with different isp and it worked great. but the one place i really need it to work it doesnt. is there anything i can do???? pleeaseeeeeeee...i have contacted my isp a little bit ago.. so maybe they have answers but in the mean time..

Is your computer hardwired to the router and not over WIFI, WIfi is terrible for gaming.
If you are Hardwired how far are you from the Router? and what type of cable are you using.
You can always get a different ISP.
