Type of CPU to buy

Im looking at buying a new PC and was wondering what CPU model to go for i narrowed it down to AMD Quad cores at least the 955 but was wondering if it would be worth it for a mid gaming rig to go for the 965 or even a Hecta-Core. Main use for this PC will be gaming in mediumish quality. I also plan on pairing it with the GTX 550Ti

For a similar price you can get an i5-2400 or i5-2500 with much better performance.

If you're gonna get a i5-2500 you might as well pay an extra $10 - $15 for the i5-2500k for the unlocked multiplier which results in better overclocks. Otherwise you can only adjust the FSB to achieve higher clock speeds.

For gaming he don't need overclock and the non K series can't overclock more that 10% or 15%. If the user wants overclock, I join to the jaguarskx suggestion, move on to the SB K series.

idk what your talking about with the I-5 being a similar price as the 955 or 965

the intel is over 100 dollars more? I personnaly just see that AMD gives you more bang for your buck

Between the three, the 955 is the best bet. The 965 just has a higher clock speed, but since both of them are the Black Editions, it doesn't matter. With a good motherboard and cooler, you can easily overclock the 955 to 965 speeds.
