Sleep prob driving me crazy!

I upgraded my Radeon HD 4870 to the 5870.
4870 never had any problems. With the 5870 though when I put the system to sleep and wake it again, the screen wakes up (no picture though) and then immediately the screen's status message says something like "entering sleep mode now".
I used to have this problem with previous graphics cards. I can see by searching on google that loads of people have the same problem, but nobody ever found a solution.
Can anyone help?

What happens after it says"entering sleep mode" ? Do you have to restart your PC ?

The computer is on and fully functional, but I have to hold the power button for several seconds toturn it off or press the reset button because I have no picture.

@ Op -Remove your current driver. clean the registry then re install the latest one.

How do I clean the registry beyond doing a normal uninstall of the drivers?

to OP,First of all it's a common issue.I sometimes have to restart my PC when it wakes from sleep due to screen filckers etc.
Aside from ccleaner,try driver sweeper too,here is how
1_Download and install "Driver sweeper" from Guru3d.com and install
2_Go to add/remove programs and uninstall the driver and reboot
3_Boot to safe mode and open driver sweeper,then click on Nvidia and then click on clean
4_Reboot and boot normally to windows and install the new drivers after that you need to restart,and its done
