Reason for failure of serial comm port on desktop

Hello,
no hardware connecting to serial port , while on another pc it is connecting properly .i know comm port on pc got failed but this is happened but what will be possible reasons behind it want to know for root cause analysis . please help me out for the same .

Is the serial port used for the first time?
And if yes did you allready check the bios settings that it is not disabled?
