Hi All

My new rig is coming in tomorrow.

Gigabyte P67 UD5
Intel 2500k
Dominator 8gig kit
Xonar Xense Bundle
AMD 6990
Windows 7 64bit
CM HAF 932 + CPU COOLER

Question

Gigabyte ODIN 800W GT. I have a Thermal-take tough power 750W in my current rig, powering a amd 6950. GUYS I CAN NOT CHANGE THE ODIN PSU. The parts im getting comes in a bundle at a very very good price and i cant ask for a different psu. I have researched the ODIN and surprisingly the reviews are great. It is a good psu, BUT CAN IT TRIFIRE A 6990+6950. I dont thinK my tough-power will handle it even though its a good PSU.

Will the ODIN have enough Juice?

I will only use trifire for future proofing the rig. I wont upgrade for at-least 4 years.

Yes the ODIN can handle the 6990+6950, it has the +12v3 and +12v4 at 25A each, which is sufficient to support the 6990 and the 6950.

thank you for your responses and comments. I'm happy that the PSU will handle because i really don't want to upgrade again. Im actually pleasantly surprised at how underrated this PSU is. It seems to be TOP quality with some really good features. These days all i hear is CORSHAIR CORSHAIR CORSHAIR. Its nice to do something different once in a while.

Once again, thank you guys.

Just a quick question.

The gigabyte ud5 supports tri-crossfire right. Now If i place my 6990 in the 16x16 top slot and then the 6950 8x8 bottom slot. Will this give me optimal bandwidth? Or will the 6990 be at 8x8 and the 6950 at 4?? Im pretty confused. I dont want to inhibit any of these cards because of the PCI express lane bandwidth?

Just saw that you're from South Africa (that's what I taken from your nick, Julz from SA), yay! Good to see some South Africans on here, and nice to know I'm not the only one... :/

Anyhow, where did you buy from?

< from Sa

and yes the gt should handle trifire

and the 6990 will run x8 and the 6950 will run x8

yo dude, i get my stuff from either take2.co.za, or prophecy.co.za. Landmarkpc.co.za.looks really good too. I generally buy from these online stores, but for this build, I had to use my Dads suppliers from work. I got my PC through the company.

Anyways, instead of the odin GT, i was surprised to see that they instead got me the 1200w odin pro. Nice PSU, Really nice. Top quality and im really chuffed.

Computer is running fine except for the dreaded P67 UD5 Boot cycle crap. I think the bios update from @bios fixed it. I hope it has. Other than that, i can play wither 2, at 2560 x 1440 on highest except for ubersampling, on a 6950. Frame rates could be better but def playable. getting the 6990 tomorrow. YAY. Been waiting for stock on this baby.

Will post pics when 6990 is in. cm212+ with excalibur push pull fans are noisy! Other than that its awsome

Yeah the ODIN GT and the ODIN Pro is about the same thing. Stores like Prophecy are well known for giving you something better if you ordered something less that they didn't have in stock. I've purchased from www.nivo.co.za quite a few times before, but I'm switching to Prophecy and TAKEALOT (Take2's new name :)) from now on. TAKEALOT has epic shipping speeds and Prophecy has a nifty little forum that has brought things in stock for me that I needed. I love those guys... :D

You can easily set your fan speeds via BIOS, it's what I did with my 212+ and it's silent as can be. Both fans (stock and CM Blue LED) are running at around 1200rpm constantly, so noise is acceptable. I'm getting a fan speed controller for the other case fans though, I hate having a 2000rpm fan sucking in air through a grille, it's noisy as hell.

6990 is a monster. Have fun! :)
