Help - GTX 285 and Game Crashes - Graphics Cards

Hello all: just replaced the 8800 GT which was faulty due to Quimundo ram in it (Pink screen), Now installed a BFG 285 OCX. Ive tried using the 266.58 and now am using the 197.45 drivers. Im getting a different crash now in my games in about 20 mins. into them (Blue screen with wrting in it), sometimes it happens randomly. Temps are around 61 degrees F on vid card under load. Oh yeah , I use driver sweeper per instruction on guru3d website

I believe it is what it says. A driver issue. Everything in that stop message points towards video. Try reseating your card and reinstalling the newest driver for XP.

Thanks Chinsane, I reinstalled the 197.45 drivers and the driversweeper process went alot smoother this time. I played for over an hour and things went smooth, will test somemore today

Is GPU-Z running while you are gaming? If so, turn it off and try it.

Hi DirtyJuic3 - when some of the crashes occur, Im not running GPU-z, However it has me thinking that RivaTuner might be the culprit. In order to prevent downclocking and change Vid fan speeds, monitor temps, I had to force RT to recognize the newer drivers, hence there was legacy items that could fouled things up. I will unistall RT and use EVGA Precision and test later.

Might have a fix, or several fixes.

1. Somehow ??? in Bios, onboard sound was enable (always had it disable as Im using SB Live card
2. Unistalled Riva Tuner, using EVGA Precision
3. Unplugged USB joystick
4. Set E6750 CPU/Ram/FSB back to normal clocks (no overclocking)

Ran ARMAII for over a hour and half last nite,,, no problems where I usually do within 20 mins.

Now for more testing to figure out culprit. Bet it was sound card/onboard card conflict.

1. Possible, but I'm doubting this. This might be due to the SB live card having conflicts. Creative is great for sound solutions when their parts are new, but bad with legacy support. They tend to not keep up with the industry with their older equipment.
2. Possible, but again, I'm doubting it. My experience with Riva Tuner is limited, but I don't beleive simply enabling this will cause such an issue. RT has a good reputation as being reliable, and for this to cause it seems unlikely to me.
3. Very unlikely. USB really has no relation to any of this, it would have to be a specific conflict with a game/motherboard.
4. I'm betting this was it. Two likely possibilities: a) additional CPU draw caused issues with the PSU resulting in insufficient power to the GPU b) CPU instability can result in other hardware or drivers appearing to fail as they rely on the CPU in some circumstances.

Quick update, ran ARMAII last nite for 2 hrs straight, no problems with the settings above.
Tonite I will plug in joystick as we fly iL2 Sturmovik.
