My mission for this build was to get exceptional graphics for gaming while keeping the budget low (tried to get below $1000). Keep in mind that this build is more or less a starting point... i plan to upgrade the system piece by piece and that factored into my decision for a setup that can be upgraded accordingly(to a certain point i understand).

So I'd just like any thoughts on the build

ASUS P8P67-M Pro B3 mobo
Intel i5 Second gen 2500k unlocked cpu
EVGA GeForce GTX 550
Ultra 550-Watt power supply
Hitachi 250GB HDD 7200 RPM
Corsair XMS3 Tri Channel 6GB RAM

Like I said each piece will be upgraded accordingly, but I would still like your Opinions!

thanks!

550? Don't be fooled by numbers, the 460 GTX 768 blows the 550 ti away and you can get this sweet deal and get it for even cheaper: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121390

If you plan on SLI that PSU will not be enough and that HDD looks weak. Samsung spinpoint is good: url=http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152181&cm_re=samsung_spinpoint-_-22-152-181-_-Product WD caviar blacks are also good.

I am confused as to you saying you are going to upgrade piece by piece. You mean you have an old system and are upgrading it to what you posted? Make sure your old parts can fit with the new, old IDE parts and DDR2 RAM are now junk in new systems...

By upgrading piece by piece i mean that if i do plan to sli i will upgrade the power supply first, then the graphics card...etc. Like that.

And would you please elaborate on why the 460GTX is better than the 550?
Thanks

Yeah that makes sense, don't spend a lot on a high wattage psu if you don't plan to use it.

As for the 550 ti vs 460 gtx, the reviews speak for themselves:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-550-ti-gf116-radeon-hd-5770,2892.html
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4221/nvidias-gtx-550-ti-coming-up-short-at-150/17

Both reviews rate the 460 gtx at around 10-25% more performance over the 550 ti while the 460 gtx I linked is cheaper than the 550 ti. Also keep in mind that the 460s have very low temps/noise and can be overclocked very well. If you wanted to step up from a 460 you would grab a 6850 for $150 or a 6870 for $180 or a 560 ti (which is a very good card) for low $200s

Also I'm not sure if this makes a difference, but I currently have a EVGA 9800gt in my current build that I'd like to run as a physX card in the new rig with the new card (kinda liking the GTX460 1gb)....would using the older 9800gt as a physX card present any problems?
