Hey guys,

I am hoping to build a hackintosh pc, I was wondering if anyone on this forum knew whether any of these arts are compatible, I hate the windows OS, and I don't want to spend the money on a mac so can anyone tell me whether this will work together?

Total: around 1100 dollars

So will this be compatible? I have a few drivers, and software to actually do it but if you have better ones i'll check it out!

Apparently there are no Hakintosh experts around here, so I will throw in my $0.02

I REALLY considered this route last year before I went with a dual boot Win7 and Ubuntu system. The main reasons I did not are:

1. The courts have ruled it is illegal to install Mac OSX on non-Apple hardware.
2. It supported by a small community, much smaller than the typical Linux distro.
3. Mac OSX still has security patches from time to time, and who knows when Apple will brick non-Apple installs?

I try to spend as much time in Ubuntu as possible to move away from Windows. If I decide I want to move to MAC OSX I will save up my money, bite the bullet, and spend the 2-3 grand on a system.

You are probably better served by going to Linux. Aside from what Phil pointed out, Hackintoshes come with technical headaches as well. Getting the OS running is just the first step anyway. It's not like you get the OS installed and ride merrily off into the sunset. ;)

That said there is no point building on the 1156 socket. Build on the 1155. Cheaper and better.

What do you plan on doing that you require such a beefy GPU? If you're a big gamer and want to play games, you also should stay with Windows anyway.

Why are you buying 2 DVD drives?

Sorry guys It took me a really long time to reply back. I need the Gtx 480 for video editing I wasn't sure whether Mac OS can use Workstation cards like the quadro series. I think I may go with Linux plus isn't Linux free? DO I just need to download to a DVD RW Cd or what? DO I need to do a dual boot option?

Depends on which version you want to use.

Ubuntu is one of the most popular strains of Linux: http://www.ubuntu.com/
They'll walk you through how to install it as well. You don't necessarily need a dual-boot option, but if you want the option is available.

Linux is free. Just download a live CD image and away you go. Ubuntu is one of the most common and has the best hardware support for current hardware.

However, if you want to do video editing you may not find the software support for your needs. It depends on how heavy your needs are. If you're doing professional grade work in Premiere (or the like) Linux is totally unsuitable, as you'd need to run it in emulation with WINE or on a Virtual Box (severe performance determiments either way). If you just want to mess around with some casual stuff and cheesy YouTube videos there's probably something in the repos that will work.
