My brother and I are big Gamers, but the games we play don't work well on our computer. From what I understand, we need a dedicated graphics card to fix the problem, Eventually we would like to build a good gaming rig, but until then I hope I can just attach a better graphics card to the computer I already have. Here are my specs:

System Model: Hewlett-Packard p6523w

CPU: 2.80 gigahertz AMD Athlon II X2 220, 256 kilobyte primary memory cache, 1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache, 64-bit ready, Multi-core (2 total), Not hyper-threaded

Motherboard: Foxconn 2AA9 1.00, 200 MHz Bus Clock

HD: 640 GB

Memory: 4864 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory, Slot 'DIMM1' is Empty, Slot 'DIMM2' has 1024 MB (serial number 52493D91), Slot 'DIMM3' has 2048 MB (serial number 942871E1), Slot 'DIMM4' has 2048 MB (serial number 92287267)

Controller: AMD SATA Controller

Bus Adaptors: Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller (2x), Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller (4x)

Display: ATI Radeon 3000 Graphics

What would be your suggestion?

According to this you have 1 PCI-e x16 slot, and a 250w Powersupply

If you don't want to upgrade your PSU, I wouldn't recommend anything above a 5670. You can do higher, but the quality of that PSU is unknown to me.

I would not mind upgrading the PSU as long as it fits in the tower.

Ok, well there is kind of a snag here. You said you want to eventually build a gaming rig, is that eventually as in within this year? Or eventually as in the distant future?

I can show you a decent PSU and decent cheap GPU that will get you by.

or I can show you a really good PSU and a GPU (that will be bottlenecked by your CPU), but you can use them in your gaming machine once you build it.

Well, it will probably be a couple years before I get the good rig, and we plan to go all out with money for that one, I just need something good for the rig I have now. We plan on using an AMD 6 core for the new rig, but like I said, that's way down the road.
