Just upgraded my system. New cpu, mobo, ram, hard drive. I put it all together and it worked fine. I left it running overnight to download some games, and in the morning it was powered off. Now it wont boot. The fans come on and the motherboard lights up but no video and no motherboard beeps. Put it all together the night before. Installed windows 7, and loaded all the drivers without a hitch.

I have tried
-swapping out video cards
-trying one stick of RAM, then swapping out for the other
-re seating everything
-cleared CMOS

Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem could be?

System Specs

Motherboard
-ASUS M5A97 AM3+

CPU
-AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition Thuban 3.2GHz

RAM
-G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB DDR3 1333

Video
-Nvidia GTX260

Power supply
-500w

What does the monitor do? Unplug it and plug it back in... does it say "no signal" "going to sleep"?... hate to make an assumption but it's probably a bad board and I would ask for a replacement. If you can test the cpu in a different board then I'd do that as it'll solve that question. Also when the fans kick on, are they low or high? And what's the make of the power supply. A bad power supply can kill a board not to mention other things. You can have the PSU tested on the 12v rail and make sure cpu is getting it's juice...

The power supply is an APEX AL-D500EXP 500W ATX12V . When I turn the monitor on and off It says no signal. Tried two different monitors as well. The fans kick on at high and stay that way.

take out the power supply and have it tested or you could get a cheap voltometer from say, Walmart ($10), set it to 20v dc and black with black and red with yellow on the cpu 4 pin plug (or perhaps 8pin) and see if you're getting 12v... If it was my system and the 12v rail was good and if I was in your shoes, I'd first replace the board then cpu. i say this because I fixed my mothers comp with the same problem, exact...

Would the board have gone bad overnight like that? It worked fine the previous day.

I would get a different power supply. What did you spend on it, $40 bucks? You could've gotten one for about the same price and was atleast 80 plus...

remember you get what you paid for... if you buy good products don't cheat 'em with crappy power. Got to be nice... :non:

Just because it says 500w doesn't mean that's what you get.

Yep... 1,000's of people have experienced this calamity. That's a nice board, you should've accompanied it with a good PSU and done away with 4Gb of memory. Rule of thumb is if your on a budget trim some fat and get a good PSU and it'll leave room for upgrades later.
