Memtest reports memory errors on on specific core

I have a home built machine that I have been trying to discover what's been causing some issues I've been having. It has an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 installed. I posted to a memory thread because I bought 4 GB more memory and I've been having system lockups. I decided to run Memtest86 on my existing memory and Memtest gets so far and starts recording a large amount of errors. However what I see in common is that Memtest always reports the errors from CPU 1. Which I would imagine is the second core (0,1,2,3).

Occasionally when I try turning the machine on from a shutdown state the machine will not POST, and I have to power on and off several times before it will. Usually if I am merely restarting or turning on from a sleep state the machine posts fine.

Does it sound like I have a CPU issue?

Thanks in advance for any advice!
