Xfx 5670 get a blank screen

Hello,
I recently tried to install an xfx HD5670 graphics card and when I push the power button on the computer, I get a loud fan and the screen is just blank(black) and nothing happens. I did put in a 480 PSU. The computer works fine when I take the card out. I even changed the setting on the BIOS to start up with the PCI-E. Might be that the computer is too old for it(2005), it's a HP a1310n. I upgraded to windows 7 so not sure what it could be. I did tried to updat BIOS but it wouldn't do it. I get a "can't update BIOS(1)." message. Any ideas?

Here is my motherboard; http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00496280&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=1815823&tmp_track_link=ot_search

Another thing, after I take out the card and restart the computer I get the loud fan for 2-3 seconds then it goes away. When I try to start the computer with the card, the fan noise is there the whole time until I shut the computer off.

More about 5670 blank screen
  1. Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
  2. Could be a few things wrong.

    a) it has a 6 or 8 pin power connector that you haven't connected.

    or

    b) you got a card that was doa.

If there's no power connector that you haven't plugged in, your cards probably dead. so RMA it unfortunately :/
  3. Yeah, there is nothing to hook it power to the card. So I got a bad card then? :pfff: That blows. Was this a good card to begin with?? Thanks.
  4. Ok, so I did a search and it seems that this being a 2.1 card and having an "older" system it will not work; http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/307443-33-radeon-5670-compatable-motherboard

It looks like the 2.0 cards should work with my system. Should I get the same card in the 2.0 flavor?? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150504&cm_re=5670_pci-e_2.0-_-14-150-504-_-Product&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-RSSDailyDeals-_-na-_-na&AID=10521304&PID=3463938&SID=

Or is there a better card out there than this for around $100? Any input is appreciated, thanks.

5670 does not have extra power connector. the card pulls the power directly from PCI-E slot. i suspect the problem is come from lack of power

it could be that. i remember some motherboard need BIOS update so they can properly detect the card.

What do you guys think of that card? Do you think it'll work on my computer??
  8. it should work but it will use more power than 5670 since the card need 1 6 pin pci-e power connector. like i mention before if your real problem lies on power supply then getting this card won't solve your problem.
  9. Thanks. I'll see if the 480w psu will cover it.
  10. what kind of psu did you get... some psu's claim to be much higher wattage than they really are

    http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story&reid=204

this one was a "580 watt" psu... but really a 200-250 watt psu

what psu do you have? could have been the psu to begin with
  11. I got this one http://www.logisyscomputer.com/viewsku.asp?SKUID=PS480D&DID=POWERSUPPLY

I'm hoping it's not the PSU. Supposedly the card only draws 75w. Do you guys recommend any other cards?
