Ati 6850

Hey all,
Theres probibly alot of those questions on the forum yet but i'd like to ask a little more..
Im pretty sure i'll go for the 6850. i'm gonna get a 6-core so the physx shouldn't be a problem should it?
else i should reconsidder the gtx 460

my main question was
Saphire or MSI Cyclone?
is the cyclone really worth the extra bucks or should i get a regular Saphire and overclock it?

PhysX is done on an Nvidia GPU and Physics is done on a CPU. Yes teh Cyclone is worth the extra, i would get a Hawk card if possible its pretty much teh best 460 there is as far as overclocking goes. It depends if you want the fastest pre overclocked card or one that will OC well.
The Cyclone card is a good comprimise of the two.

    Mactronix :)
  2. Thanks for the quick reply.
Physics and PhysX dont differ in game do they? I mean.. graphically theyre the same?
Cuz than i'll be going for the 6850
  3. PhysX is something used by a few games that can only be rendered on Nvidia cards. If you play Batman, Metro 2033, Mafia 2, Unreal Tournament 3, Dark Void, and a few others, then you will need the GTX460 to see the effects. Otherwise, your CPU will be doing physics calculations for other games regardless of which card you choose.
  4. No they are totally differant PhysX is Nvidia's propriatory GPU based image enhancement technology. http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx_new.html Physics as you no doubt know is where stuff is on the screen.
Just to be clear im not saying you cant run PhysX on a CPU but its no where near as good as it is on a Nvidia GPU. There are plenty of articles about it on the web.

    Mactronix :)
  5. thanks, that clears up things a little
    So still;
Cyclone worth the extra money, or stick with the normal sapphire?
  6. Worth it

    Mactronix :)
  7. Thanks all,
    that'd be it :)
  8. Sorry but i found out about the Saphire Toxic
i suppose its comparable to the cyclone or issit better?
And what about overclocking the normal ones?
  9. Where are you shopping and whats your Budget we can then recomend the best bang for your Buck.

    Mactronix :)
  10. that'd be nice,
im looking at a dutch shop so i dont know if its any help to you :)
my budget would be about 170 euros
  11. Dont supose you have any links to shops where you are do you ? I can find shops that ship but it may be that its cheaper

    Mactronix :)
  12. Get the Cyclone.
  13. im mainly looking at
    www.azerty.nl
    www.afuture.nl

    if you're looking at azerty,
    http://azerty.nl/winkelmandje/winkelmandje/?legen=1&product%5B386061%5D=1&product%5B306737%5D=1&product%5B252897%5D=1&product%5B277361%5D=1&product%5B204582%5D=1&product%5B331203%5D=1&product%5B364046%5D=1&product%5B242662%5D=1

    thats my build so far..
the 6850 would be good for it right?
or would the 5770 give more bang for the buck and would fit in my build?
i'm mainly using it for HD video editting and gaming

if you need any help just tell me..
too bad they're not in english

    Edit:
the processor will be an 1075t
    and 8gb of ram
  14. Personally i would say its fine as it is. Get what you have selected and forget about physX. If you really really Must have PhysX then you will need to change the 6850 to a Nvidia card something like this http://azerty.nl/8-971-309177/msi-n460gtx-hawk-grafische-a.html
    Personally i wouldnt bother.

  15. thanks!
my main concern was that the MSI packaging doesn't look so good(no crossfire bridge etc) so i was doubting about the quality..
Sapphire's packaging looks much better to me and the Toxic seemed like a nice replacement.
But since everyone is saying cyclone, i suppose they saved some money on the packaging and putted it in the performance?
  16. The SLI/Crossfire bridges come with the motherboard accessories, not the video card.
  17. i've seen many unboxing videos where the crossfire bridge actually comes with the videocard.
However, i havn't seen one where it comes with the motherboard
    i might be mistaken here?
  18. I have seen both but as far as I know they come standard with a crossfire capable GPU as long as you buy one with a decent bundle. Well put it this way I have bought plenty of both GPU's and Motherboards and the GPU's have always had either the Crossfire of SLI connector with the card. Motherboards I have seen with them in bundles advertised but I have not yet bought one.

    Mactronix :)
  19. ah okay
    have been wathcing some unboxings
but the cyclone doesn't seem to have any
thats why i was wondering about the packaging and bundeling

the ASRock extreme 3 surely doesn't have it since its only 75 bucks.
  20. In any event, MSI only bundles connectors with their motherboards.

That may have been true at some point in time but not anymore http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/HD_6950_Twin_Frozr_II/2.html

  22. Must be an AMD thing.
  23. seems like i've been waiting too long,
its out of stock in almost every shop in holland..
can't be that its not made anymore?
What would be a good replacement?
