Budget HTPC build advice

I'm trying to figure up the cost of a decent HTPC to replace my cable box. I would like a blu-ray drive and will use it for netflix, hulu, interent tv, and to record antenna tv. I would like to use it for gaming also. Something that I can upgrade down the line would be nice. I will slide in to a stereo cabinet and hook to the tv via HDMI.
What parts would you use?

Approximate Purchase Date: within 2-3 months

Budget Range: $400-$600 After Rebates

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Netflix, Hulu, watching internet TV, some Gaming, surfing

Parts Not Required: monitor and speakers

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg, doesn't really matter

Country of Origin: USA

Parts Preferences: I would like to use a slim case like a set-top box or a dvd player.

Monitor Resolution: Hooked up to my Philips LCD TV, #47PFL6704d

Additional Comments: I would like a quiet PC. This is to take the place of my cable tv box. I'm tired of paying the bill. Would also like to be able to record (PVR) from antenna.

Thanks guys

  1. I would be willing to hold off on the gaming video card for now and upgrade to that later.
  2. 2-3 months is a long time.

Re-post in 2-3 months. A lot of things change in that amount of time.
