New CPU - Computer does not boot

Hey all. So I bought an AMD Phenom II X6 Processor and attempted to install it on my ASRock Motherboard. When the computer attempted to boot nothing would happen. Fans would whirl, but nothing would appear on the screen. When I reinstalled my old AMD Phenom 9600 Agena it worked just fine. Any ideas? Thanks!

A quick reading of the specs shows your mobo lists support for X3-X4, but does not mention X6. Don't know much about AMD processors/sockets/mobos, but I'd look further to make certain your mobo supports that cpu. May need a BIOS update.

Cpu support list shows all X6 processors supported.

Update the bios with your old cpu and then install the new cpu.

@twoboxer: Wow I feel dumb! I had the assumption that I could run any AM3 socket processor on the AM2+ socket motherboard without looking closer at the specs. Thanks for catching that.
