Is socket am2 and socket 940 the same

i have an old opteron sever board but it says am2 on the socket itself, i was looking for opterons for sell for the am2 but only pulled up socket 940 opterons are they compatable or the same thing or what?

No. Quoting Wikipedia:
''AM2 processors are incompatible with 939 motherboards and vice versa, and although it has 940 pins, it is incompatible with Socket 940''

Nope, Socket 940 and AM2 have different Pin layouts and will not physically fit
