Language Pack

I have recently bought a laptop from the US with a US layout keyboard. Some of the keys are switched between the US layout and the UK layout for the keyboard so that when I use it with a UK English language pack the keys like " and @ are switched and I don't have use of the \ key at all.

How can I revert to a US English language pack. I am guesing that would alleviate the problem. I have tried going into Settings and then General but it will not allow me to default to a US English pack.

Any help would be greatly apreciated.
