Build help suggestions

Approximate Purchase Date:Next couple of weeks.

Budget Range: 700ish for just the tower

System Usage from Most to Least Important: gaming and multimedia (doesnt have to be the most cutting edge for gaming but I would like to be able to play most games at reasonable settings).

Parts Not Required:all peripherals and monitor

Preferred Website(s) for Parts:probably newegg, unless another sight has a better deal

Country of Origin:USA

Parts Preferences: see below

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: No

Monitor Resolution: no clue

Additional Comments: I have a prospective build outlined. I would just like some clarification and recommendations on parts. If there are better parts than what I have selected, if there are combo deals that would save me money, if there is a better bang for my buck (regardless of whether it will cut performance slightly or increase price slightly), if i am forgetting something, etc. - Rosewill CHALLENGER Black Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case, comes with Three Fans-1x Front Blue LED 120mm Fan, 1x Top 140mm Fan, 1x Rear 120mm Fan, option Fans-2x Side 120mm Fan 54.99 - CORSAIR Enthusiast Series CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply 89.99 (74.99) - Western Digital Caviar Black WD5002AALX 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive 62.99 - EVGA 01G-P3-1556-KR GeForce GTX 550 Ti (Fermi) FPB 1GB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card 149.99 (129.99) - MSI 890FXA-GD70 AM3 AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard 189.99 (169.99) - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL 49.99 - AMD Phenom II X4 970 Black Edition Deneb 3.5GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Desktop Processor HDZ970FBGMBOX 169.99

  1. CPU: Core i3 2100
    RAM: Kingston HyperX 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
GPU: MSI N460GTX Twin Frozr II SOC GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 768MB
    HDD: SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB
PSU: CORSAIR Enthusiast Series CMPSU-650TX 650W
    Optical: LITE-ON Black 22X

    Total: $739 w/o rebates

Although it's a little over budget, the GTX460 768MB trumps that GTX550 Ti, and the Core i3 2100 is faster for your needs. Also you get 8GB RAM and relatively fast 1TB drive.
  2. Do you have a DVD writer?

    AMD Phenom II X4 955
    ASUS M4A87TD/USB3 + ASUS EAH6870 DC/2DI2S/1GD5 Radeon HD 6870
    G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 4GB
    Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3500418AS 500GB + CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650

    $674.93 (with your case)

The CPU is the same only clocked a little lower, you can easily up its multiplier in the BIOS a little and make it run at 3.5GHz or more.
