Try plugging the mouse into another computer. Perhaps the circuits have been messed up.

I have a Logitech optical mouse that would not respond properly sometimes after reboot. To get the mouse to respond properly I would have to repeat the reboot.
I never found a valid reason for the instablity which occurred in WinME and WinXP.
After updating to the latest Logitech mouse driver the problem has not reoccurred.
Have you tried reinstalling your mouse driver?

I had the exact same problem with my mouse a year ago! i bought a new one. What i think the problem was though was that the wires were wearing thin and were picking up some interference, sending the PS2 port incorrect data. Mine started off jumping all over the screen, then it got so bad, that the data the mouse was sending the port made absolutely no sense at all, and brought about a blue screen of death within seconds of Windows completely loading. I got a new mouse, and everything was perfectly fine after that.

So... either do some surgery (may not work), or shell out the dough and get a new mouse! (I recommend MS Intellimouse Explorer - worth the money!!!)

The Intellimouse Explorer is optical. Just get an optical mouse. You don't have to worry about dust screwing with the tracking ball. Great stuff...

Looks like you got my post just a fraction too late! Ahh well... The Explorer is optical, and it has4 buttons and a scroll wheel. You might think you wouldnt use these buttins, but after using them for a couple days, you cont live without them. I'm a gamer, and the optical technology rocks! No more cleaning out my mouse every 2 or 3 hours. Go optical! It Rox!
