Problem with dvd

I get no sound and the picture is choppy and in small squares

Sounds like either the disc is dirty or the lens needs to be cleaned.

Clean the disc with a soft, lint free cloth.
Clean the laser with a lens cleaning disc.

Maybe you need to install codecs.
