Can this MB hold a 2 slot GPU?

Its a pre-built computer which currently has a single slot Gt 545 inside (which also doesn't need any extra power connectors as you can probably see).

My concern is that a two slot GPU would get blocked by the silver thing right below the two small PCIE ports.

Am I right or am I misinterpreting the situation?

The 'silver thing' you refer to depends on what you call "below" the PCIe x1 slots. The square item is the chip set heat sync. The round item is the CMOS battery. In either case, they should present no problem as far as the width of a 2 bay card. The card should straddle the HS or battery and not even come near the battery.
More important is the length of the card you want to add. Be sure to measure the distance you have from the expansion slot covers to any obstructions you may have that the end of the card could run into.
