The card was not even remotely designed to compete with the 5870. Is this a fanboy thread or something?

with respect to XX50 and XX70 series ati cards, the performance jump from five to six series ati was just not as big as 4 to 5 series was. The 5850 was way faster than a 4870, whereas the 5870 is only slightly behind a 6950 (since amd changed their naming scheme beginning with the six series)...

Aside from all that I would definatley get a gtx 560 ti, in my opinion its one of the best values on the market currently...

ya with nvidia's gtx460<gtx560<gtx570<gtx580 every card has its unique value
i just purchased a gtx460 because i think its just at the edge of mainstream and enthusiast with good benchmarks

When did the 470 beat up on the 5870? maybe purely on tessellation but I dont recall the 470 ever "beating up" the 470. If anything the 5870 is close to. but a bit behind the gtx 560 in most cases. The only thing I agree with your statement is that the 560 is faster then the 470, (and the 5870 for that matter, especially when oc'ed its close to a gtx 570... ) but by no means is the 5870 beat up by the 470 or gtx 560, except maybe purely on tessellation... so how do you figure that?

btw, according to that Gtx 560ti is somewhat defeated by 470(??)

^ lol you can't be seriously citing passmark, that benchmark does not give a 100% clear picture of the cards performance, the 5870 still beats the gtx 470 in most games, look at a benchmark comparing the two over several different games and you should easily be able to make that determination yourself.

I believe it used to be:
5850 vs 470 (the 470 won but that's why it cost a bit more yet less than the 5870)

5870 vs 480 (the 480 won in terms of performance but was more expensive)

The 5870 is inferior for tessalation, but otherwise should be on par or beat the 560 when tessaltion is not involved.

Me personally, I prefer the GTX 560

In my opinion, GTX 560Ti won absolute at tesselation. Others are on par with 5870. Games optimized for nvidia chipset (like using PhysX) are generally better at using 560ti, but those who are not (generally coded) are on par, if not 5870 slightly better.
Also, 560ti gives low temperature.

I'm looking to buy a GPU, there's a deal I can get a 5870 for $209.99 .... the cheapest 560 GTX is like $259.99....

I've always been partial to Nvidia but I've always bought XFX boards. The 5870 while it is ATI is an XFX Board .... this a good deal?

I wish that the 5870 was that cheap a year ago :/
If you are pinching pennies then feel free to settle with the cheaper card.

Well by the looks of it stock for stock they are pretty similar...

I went over some benchmarks and in some games the ATI card is better, some games the Nvidia card is better ...

Do ATI Cards still have horrid drivers?

Funny that you ask, hey ATI fanboys are you having any issues with drivers if any? Don't lie -_-

I have been getting a kick out of this thread announcing the new 11.2 AMD drivers:
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/309630-33-post-result...

A little sample for you:
"I've experienced a major FPS decrease in WoW, SC2, and Medal of Honor"
"11.2 is a no-go for me, and I'm running a Diamond 5870 @ 1GB GDDR5 native clocks."
"the install is still slightly flawed for crossfire setups. The last fully functioning (sound and video) install for crossfire setups was 10.12."
"I noticed a 20fps framerate drop in BFBC2???"
"Actually, almost a 30fps drop in performance in BFBC2 using 11.2 drivers"
"I went from 11.1 to 11.2. The installation errors were the same as I and many others have encountered before: "Errors on Installation", "MSI Service Failure", "Installation Failure". When uninstall is tried the same errors occur."

And my favorite:
"One question though. Went to update my app profile to 11.1CAP1, but I am getting a .rar file and not a .exe file when I download it from ATI. How do i install the 11.1CAP1 profile. Do i need a program to decompress the .rar file?"

I am going to say this and am going to stick with it. I hope that you don't reply and this affects the thread as I want it to be as it is about the subject at hand. However I do have a problem with your avatar. I hate the occult to such a level that I can't sum it up in words and am sick of seeing it every ware. I am sick of the kabbalah and the nine gates symbolism.
