AMD Phenom 2.5ghz
DDR2 4Gb ram
Radeon HD 6870
PSU 700w OCZ Gamexstream
Asus M37A8-CM

Getting really low fps on very high on crysis(17-30). No AA and mass effect is only getting me as high as 50fps. Any ideas? Maybe the cpu?

well crysis is very hungry game, but ur getting alright fps, i beleive that ur cpu is bottlenecking ur card, depending on which model u have of the phenom, please be more specific and if its overclocked

Thats not too bad of frame rate. Like Iceclock said it will punish GPU. You might try to OC you chip a little.

Yeah i was thinking about it. Buying a PHII 3.4ghz(may be o/c to 3.8), would that help me up it to 30-50 fps?

Yes, your results seem fine. I get usually around 30 FPS on very high (often a bit less, sometimes a bit more) at the same resolution as yours on Athlon II x4 630 which overall outperforms your Phenom a little bit. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/105?vs=29
GPU Geforce 460 768 MB.

Resolution?

yes., depending on the resolution it might tax ur cpu more in higher resolutions , since ur cpu still needs to help render all those pixels on the screen, thats the gpus job but the cpu still has a part in it all, its a big picture i tell yea

1280x1024

with high settings i get maximum 62fps

minimum 29fps

avg:- 35-43fps

frame rates are not stable cuz this game was optimized for NVIDIA Cards....still getting this much with my ATI 5series card aint bad :)

not bad, id prefer to cap it at 32 or 31 to have a constant fps, but to each to there own :D

Actually the 6870 gets pretty good framerates in Crysis at 1680x1050 thanks to driver optimizations. Make sure you have the latest patch for Crysis.

As for your CPU yeah a Phenom 9850 may be a little low end for that 6870. If you can overclock it to at least 3.0Ghz that would certainly help.

Yeah, but to be honest, even with ACC that can be pretty hard.

Your Crysis performance is fine. See below chart for 1600 x 900 performance with an i7-980X Extreme Edition CPU for Crysis Warhead:

As for Mass Effect, I believe it is more dependent on the CPU....

its not that ....i've got the most awesome card but its decent enough......runs any game till now on high settings(no aaa) with above mentioned resolution even crysis runs well enough(without aa)

34-56fps(not stable...because of nvidia's twimtbp ***)

by the way crysis 2 specs have been revealed..

check it out here
