First time builder help

ok so to start i don't know if i am putting this in the right place so sorry if this is not the right place for this forgive me i am new but onward my question is will my stuff work
what i mean by that is i am building a computer my first build i know a little bit about computers but not the
inside stuff that make it work so i am asking if my stuff is compatible and is there any thing i need to add that i forgot any thing i need to change i am using this for gaming and i don't want to spend over at least 1000 if i can help it and i am pushing it now but any thing i need to change or some thing i need to add just let me know here's what i have so far.

graphics card: ATI RADEON HD4870 1GB DUAL DVI HDTV CARD

processor: AMD Athlon II X3 440 3 GHz Processor - Tri-core

i don't know if this is need to know but here ram: Kingston ValueRAM 3GB DDR3 SDRAM Memory Module

mother board: MSI 890FXA-GD70 AM3 AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

don't know if this is needed or not hard drive: Western Digital WD Elements 1 TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive

and i know i am missing a case and a power supply and also the disk drive if you have any tips to what ones i should get let me know links would help so thanks and any help would be greatly appreciated

$1000 and you already have cpu, motherboard and video card?

You could build a complete new system from scratch that's 5X faster than that for $1000.

Yep, the parts he needs add to some $200. The CPU he has is fine for gaming the video card is a bit old but still strong at lower resolutions. He can buy a more powerful PSU that those listed if he wants to crossfire later on that motherboard and a more expensive case.

Well not to sound cocky xD but if i could do better then this what would you recommend what should i degrade what should i upgrade what do you think i should do ? what should i get i am thinking about getting a alien ware desktop and just skip the middle man on building one but the thing is i want to build my on so it's built the way i want and i have the better stuff and not just sucky prebuilt stuff i want a good graphics card but if i am not wrong i think you can change the ones in the alien wares right?

hey i was looking at that graphics card and it's 6870 and i figured i would bump up little and go with a 6970 but i don't see one is the highest there just 6950?
