honestly i just need some advice and direction as to how to build this computer with 500$. i have found a 800w power supply, a XFX NVIDIA 8200 SKT AM2+ AM2 MOTHERBOARD, and a nvidia GT 430 1gb, for around 218$, so now im stuck on what processor to get and what would be the best RAM to buy. or if these are even compatible

and is 800w a little overboard?
April 21, 2011 1:20:18 AM

Here is a guide:
http://www.squidoo.com/electronicandmore

Please list the parts you currently have. IE Exact model.
Also can you return any of those, the GT 430 is just a piece of poop and the 8200 well, it's just old now. As for the 800 watt EXACT model.

Sorenson that guide, not to say mine is better, is terrible. Which is why it has majority saying that it's negative on the polls. It's actually a terribly balanced 500$ rig. The motherboard is too expensive, and even if it is for upgrading graphics the power supply in the case is just garbage. Overall, BLEHH.

Please fill this out.

i3 2100 vs Athlon 450
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/189?vs=289
Crushed.

That LOGISYS power supply is a piece of crap and I wouldn't even trust it to power my PS3. If it is that cheap, it honestly cannot be worth those 550w. The PSU is almost the most important thing in your system as well, you can't go scant on that.

April 21, 2011 2:14:54 AM

that seems like a pretty nice build.
April 21, 2011 2:23:01 AM

wow that i3 kicked its ass. well hopefully i can get this ordered. and then i need a copy of windows, is xp or 7 better?
April 21, 2011 2:25:45 AM

^ 7 for sure.
April 21, 2011 2:34:37 AM

ok so another hundred. i think i can do that. thanks for the help!
April 21, 2011 2:40:13 AM

how well do you think this computer could run cs:source? like 100fps?
April 21, 2011 2:47:14 AM

^ At that resolution, maybe even 150 FPS. I max out source on my 5850 @ 1680x1050 with all settings max.

KEEP IN MIND: Maps do create the variations, I play on normal CSS Team play servers and I handle well on those, however when I go on custom maps (ZM mod, WC3, MODs in general) I drop down to 30-100 FPS that is a huge variation but it is the range it slows down to. Specifically the map is just ze_predator blah blah what ever version it is on now.
April 21, 2011 2:52:58 AM

thats awesome. with my old computer i had a 7950gt and it ran about 40-60 on low. its going to be nice having a powerful gaming computer. when i played CS it was just team maps practicing for CAL:0 so i think it should be fine.
April 21, 2011 3:07:11 AM

^ Yeah you should be good to go, the only map i found hard to run that was a stock map was Chautea forget if that's how you spell it, mainly because I had water reflections turned on so it'd lag a bit, but only sometimes.
