Hey there,

I am a noob so bear with me: I am hoping to build a new rig with the new GTX680 GPU. Any recommendations for an optimal Mobo for it? Someone recommended the Asus sabertooth x79, as well as the Gigabyte X79-UD3 (though a friend mentioned that the i7 2600k, which I plan on getting, is incompatible with the Gigabyte). I dont plan on running SLI any time soon and I only want to lightly overclock.

Thanks! :hello:

Solution
ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

PCIE3.0,LucidLogix Virtu, BT GO!,USB3.0 Boost

Great overclocker, great price

If u want the 2600K, get Z68 or p67 chipset.

U don't need more expensive mobo than this one, if u not going to push to the limit.

This mobo will do great.

I recommend CORSAIR Vengeance 99% of the time, quality RAM and low profile with XMP profile. And if u will get an aftermarket CPU cooler, low profile is the worry free remedy with perfect fit with any large cooler.
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

Vengeance Low Profile heat spreaders have a reduced height of 1.03" (26.25mm). They're designed for high-performance systems with extra-large CPU coolers, small form factor system builds, or any other space-constrained application where standard Vengeance memory might not fit.

so getting a "higher end" Mobo is more geared towards handling some major overclocking and running two + GPUs? As long as I am running one GPU and not overclocking majorly I should be fine? I also want to anticipate upgrading within a year to the Ivy Bridge, which I should mention...

I am also open to suggestions regarding the CPU, as this will be my first time building a computer and I am still somewhat unschooled. The system will be used primarily for gaming but also some video rendering, etc.

these are the other components I am considering:
Intel Core i7 Processor (2600K)
nVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 Chipset
OCZ (AGT3-25SAT3-60G) Agility 3 2.5" 60GB SATA3 6GB/s Solid State Drive
Seagate Barracuda SATA3 6.0Gb/s 1TB 64MB Cache (OEM)
G.SKILL Sniper Series DDR3 1600MHz 8gb
Corsair Gaming Series 700W 80PLUS Certified Power Supply
Corsair Hydro Series H60

I will look into the COrsair Vengence series as well. I live in Canada so our prices are a little steeper than the US. I would ideally like to keep it at the 2k mark...

Thanks for your suggestions :)

Get 16GB RAM, its cheap.
