I am replacing my current main components consisting of motherboard, cpu and memory and have 2 possible build combinations selected based on either amd or intel, but im not sure which would be the better choice s i cant find any good articles on the difference between core and phenom platforms. There are the 2 builds:

Intel:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-360-IN cpu
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-443-AS motherboard
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-290-CS memory

AMD:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-266-AM cpu
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-398-AS motherboard

same memory.

Any input would be helpful. This system would be a workstation for games development as i am a programmer. I need a solid stable build. I already have a good graphics subsystem but i need a stable platform with good power.

thanks

I think the i5 is probably better suited to your needs. Check out the CPU charts from this site. Obviously there isn't a "compiling" benchmark but something like audio conversion seems like the closest benchmark you could use. The i5 managed to produce an mp3 from wave in 89 seconds whereas the 1090T only managed 125s.

The Intel setup for sure. Sandy Bridge is more efficient and has a lot better architecture and thus faster than any Phenom II, despite that the 2500K is a quad and that Phenom is a hexa core.
