Hello,
I have just ordered the ASUS p8z68-v pro/gen3.
The Qualified Vendors List (QVL) only shows DDR3 1333 and two suppliers. Can I safely use other memory? I want a total of 8gigs with two cards.
Many say you can use 1600 RAM but it voids the warranty of your CPU and there is a specific list of RAM tested to work at higher speeds than the CPU memory specs and shows the conditions for it.
sandybridges need 1.5V dual channel ram.1600mhz is most highly preferred speeds of ram.anything above is useless and voids warranty of your cpu.crucial rams are very reliable as they have lowest failure rates.and one more thing, heat sinks on rams are useless, they cause cooler clearance issues, that's why i prefer low profile ram.here's a good one- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148544
No Worries,
When I actually got the board and looked in the manual, there were plenty of options for memory. Don't know why a similar list was not in the on-line version.
I got two sticks of Corsair Vengence for 8Gigs, 1600 MHz.
Thanks all.
