I want to upgrade to an SSD, change to 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium (have 32 bit now) and would like to add more RAM (have 4GB now). How do I determine if my motherboard can handle more RAM?

You can plug your service tag into Dell's website, and find your specs there. I can't seem to find this system on Dell's support site, but I didn't search exhaustively.

However, I did find it on a couple of memory mfg websites and they are saying 4GB is the maximum.
Kingston

Crucial

Simply upgrading with an SSD will definitely help performance. I'd suggest buying from one of several companies that provide a cloning bundle/kit included with the SSD. This way you don't have to reinstall any software, just clone your existing HDD to the new SSD.

Thanks. I was thinking it was going to be just 4GB and I really want 16GB. Going to get Crucial SSD and, hopefully, later may buy Lenovo's new 16GB all-in-one when it comes out this summer. This one goes to the relatives then. :??:

The 64 bit has really helped and I am going to install a 512 SSD (Crucial) which I just got. I think it will provide what I need once I get over all the headaches of reinstalling all the *.migs that Windows saved for me on an external hard drive.

Thanks for your help.

I did the 64-bit upgrade and the SSD and things have improved 100%. So, all is well now. Thanks.

Glad to hear things worked so well. Just beware, once you go SSD, you'll never go back. :)
