Hi guys

I am at the point of returning this card.

When my PC is on IDLE it is at a temp of 65 degrees celcius. This is not normal is it?

If I manually adjust the fan to 100% it makes a 2 degree difference.....

Or can I fix this myself?

I am running a crossfire rig and the other card is on average 15 degrees cooler........

I get lockups etc

1. With any multi-GPU setup, you're going to get higher-than-normal temperatures.
2. 65oC isn't normal, for a single-card config..
3. It could be a faulty-sensor, but I really doubt that.

First, the 4890 was a hot card. It should handle temps up to about 100c ok. It shouldn't lock up at 75c. Second, the other card is cooler because its probably the lower card. The top card is hotter because its fans air flow is being blocked/impeded by the card underneath it.

Remove the card and make sure the heatsink is free of dust. Is this card new or second hand?

Switch them? A brand new 4890 shouldn't lock up at 75c however. You might want to RMA now before you can't. You should get a new 5770 at least, perhaps a 6850 but that might be to much to hope for.
